Danau Pulau Besar and Danau Bawah Wildlife Reserve

General
This 25,000 ha wildlife reserve comprises the two lakes Pulau Besar and Bawah including the surrounding area. The reserve lies south of Siak Sri Inderapura in Riau province. It consists of peatswamp forest and a smaller area of freshwater swamp forest. A small number of Sumatran Elephants live inside the reserve.
Access
From Pekanbaru take a bus (3-4 hours) or a boat along the river Siak to Siak Sri Inderapura (3-8 hours, depending on the speed of the boat). In Siak Sri Inderapura hire a jeep to the reserve. The trip is only possible during the dry season.
